Heading into the new year, with lots of balls in the air

It is always a special experience for me to look back on the year that passed, and look forward to the year to come, and in the days between Christmas and New Year, we often have plenty of time for this sort of thing.

Podcasts about Danish folk music
I have a lot of balls in the air these days and it's super exciting. I can look back on a good collaboration with good colleagues, to develop the idea of making radio and podcasts about the Danish folk music scene. You can follow the results of that collaboration on RadioFolk.dk, and on iTunes and Spotify, where you will find podcasts such as 'The Cat in the Sack - a podcast series about the Danish folk music scene right now' and 'The secrets of the players - a journey in Danish folk music' and finally the series 'People Live', with recordings of Danish bands from Tønder Festival. All podcasts like it have been super exciting to develop, organize and produce, and fortunately more are on the way.

We formed the association in late summer The media garden which works to strengthen the presence of Danish folk music in the media in Denmark and abroad, and I am very proud to be chairman of that association - it is a collaboration I am very much looking forward to.

In fact, RadioFolk.dk's Facebook page is Denmark's largest folk music media, and probably the world's largest media, with a focus on the Danish folk music scene. More than 3,000 people interested in folk music follow and get daily information and inspiration on that page. You will find it here!

Mia Guldhammer and I have just been in the studio to record a handful of old Danish songs, which we, among other things, must use for videos and for Spotify and iTunes.

On a journey with the music
When it comes to getting out and meeting the audience, there are also lots of balls in the air, and everything indicates that there will be a lot of travel activity in 2019, where I plan to tour with various constellations in Denmark, Germany, USA and Canada.

Of recent initiatives, I can happily mention my extremely inspiring collaboration with the Danish singer and tradition bearer Mia Guldhammer, and my renewed musical partnership with my good old friend and colleague, the American violinist Ruthie Dornfeld, with whom I have played in i.a. American Café Orchestra, for many years.

Mia and I are in full swing developing our material, and are playing our first concerts in, among others, Denmark and Germany here during 2019.

Together with Ruthie – who I have known and played with since the 80s – I will be performing in Denmark, Germany and the USA in the coming year, and I am of course also very much looking forward to that.

The collaboration with the accordion player Mette Kathrine Jensen and violinist Kristian Bugge in the trio Jensen, Bugge & Høirup, is somewhat characterized by the fact that we are all so busy with many different projects, but we can however look forward to several jobs in Denmark in 2019, as well as a tour with the old Danish-American violin and accordion legend Dwight Lamb in the month of June, in the American Midwest - right in the middle of Trump country.

And then there is the collaboration with Kristian Bugge and the pan-Scandinavian trio Fru Skagerrak on a summer tour in Canada under the headline Scandinavian String Alliance, and much more, but I will probably write about that here on the blog in the coming months.

Finally, I would like to wish family, friends, acquaintances and work colleagues a really nice Christmas and a fantastic New Year - see you out there!
