From September 28 to October 1, North America's largest Scandinavian festival is held.
Tens of thousands of people flock to the North Dakota city of Minot each year to partake in this cornucopia of Scandinavian nostalgia, culture and pride in family roots.
In the four large halls that form the framework for the festival, visitors will find deadly Vikings, troll kings, Scandinavian and local handicrafts, Swedish meatballs, Norwegian herring and Danish Medister and apple slices.
In addition, there are stalls with Nordic knitwear, folk costumes, offers for cruises, Swedish clogs, Danish Lego, a young and smacking Miss Norwegian Autumn Festival, as well as – of course – big American draws such as Emmylou Harris, Chicago and Neil Sedaka.
But in addition, the audience can experience the good atmosphere when a multitude of players from the USA and Scandinavia, including Gangspil – Lydom, Bugge & Høirup, and our friends Skålmusik from Minnesota, entertain several times a day, with good humor and music and dance from the old home countries.
I was at Norsk Høstfest with Harald Haugaard many years ago, so now it will be fun to return together with Sonnich Lydom and Kristian Bugge, and see how the festival has developed.
On the road, we'll probably also play a few concerts in Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota, but I'll probably tell more about that when we know something more concrete.
