Borcher Madsen would have turned 200 in 2015, it must be celebrated!

A fiddler whose name appears frequently in the old fiddler's books is Borcher Madsen, born 1815 in Væggerløse. He was the son of cooper and fiddler Mads Rasmussen and he became one of Falster's most skilled fiddlers and prolific dance composers.

Borcher Madsen started playing already as a child and he became an assistant teacher in Bøtø, but when the priest gave him the choice between taking the exam and staying at the school or practicing the violin, he chose the latter. Borcher Madsen moved to Nykøbing and lived in Glahnstræde, he had many students, he was still playing when he was 80 and died in 1897.

The trio JENSEN & BUGGE + HØIRUP have long worked with music composed by Borcher Madsen and in connection with the Borcher Madsen Festival, which runs from 18 to 21 June 2015, they are releasing a brand new CD with Borcher Madsen's music as the focal point! At the same time, a book of music is also published in which the melodies we know from Borcher are collected. More info here!
