On the first weekend in July, Fin Alfred and I slip away for a trip to the Skagen Festival. Here, Fin will sing a selection of his many shows and folk songs, and play the accordion, and I will play the guitar.
We are looking forward to coming to Skagen and meeting the many people interested in the festival.
Fin Alfred has been playing and singing for more than 60 years, and in 2002 he was in Tønder to be presented with a Danish Music Award for "Danish Visealbum of the Year" (Handicraft songs and jokes from Copenhagen and the surrounding area).
With his large and completely unique collection of shows and songs, Fin Alfred tells the stories about the blacksmiths and masons and the other proud craftsmen, but also about Bombardine, Klunser Niels, Olsen from Hauserplads, Sister Petrea and many more. He tells:
"Only a few of these songs can be found in the songbooks, but they are songs that originate from and survive in the workplace, and in all places where Copenhageners meet. Therefore, they have become a natural part of my 'song treasure'. I have collected these songs in the environment I have lived in. That is, the walking movement, the hubs and the craftsmen - of which my family consisted - and then the stairwells where we sat and sang when we were children. The hikes we took later meant a lot. I hiked in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, yes all of Western Europe. We took the old Naver route and it was Schuster, Tante, Saltsyre, Cæsar and Balalejka-Ole.”
Politiken wrote:
“Fin Alfred has an instinctive sense of delivering the songs with a fine mix of loyalty and robust humour. This is about Danish folkliness in its most genuine and lively form. Recommended both to those who can remember these songs and to those who have never heard them.”
We head to Skagen with the car full of instruments, hiking boots and cameras. See you up there?
