Traditional and newly composed folk music and community dance in Skælskør Church on Thursday, July 24, 2025
There will be lots of old dance tunes, but also brand new music from Denmark when the duo Jensen & Bugge and the trio Morten Alfred & Vingården Thursday, July 24th at 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM will join forces to give a summer concert in Skælskør Church, before performing at 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM for a community dance in the Parish Hall under the direction of Dance Master Henrik from StevnsCome and join us!
Award-winning musicians and fiddlers
Jensen & Bugge features two folk musicians specializing in the many local dialects of traditional Danish folk music. The duo has presented Danish folk music on countless tours in the Nordic countries, Japan, Canada and not least the USA. In 2012, Mette Kathrine Jensen Stærk and Kristian Bugge received a Danish Music Award statuette in the category Danish Tradition Award of the Year.
The trio Morten Alfred & Vingården, on the other hand, has specialized in new Danish folk music, which they compose to fit the old folk dances. Morten Alfred Høirup received a Danish Music Award in 2004 in the category Danish Folk Composer of the Year, and published the sheet music collection in 2022 Ingel's Waltz – 25 New Danish Folk Melodies. Morten Alfred & Vingården will enter the studio and start recording their debut album in mid-August 2025.
The Dancing Master
Dance master Henrik from Stevns is known and respected for his competent approach to dance, and for his dance instructions at, among others, the Music over Præstø Fjord festival where he teaches and leads community dances every year. Henrik has extensive experience in leading dancers of all ages and levels.
