by Morten Alfred Høirup

The year 2013 was really exciting with lots of unforgettable experiences and challenges, and everything points to an at least equally content-rich 2014.

The old year offered concerts at dozens of Danish and international venues and festivals, from Törshavn's Cathedral in the Faroe Islands, over the old cinema in the small French-Canadian town, Montmagny, to the Devonport Folk Club in the abandoned bunker on the mountain, overlooking New Zealand's Auckland city night.

Unfortunately, we lost the cool old accordion player Thyspillemand Karl Skaarup in November, but he will not be forgotten, we managed to celebrate his 85th anniversary as a fiddler in Vestervig Church in October, and he will continue to inspire all of us who have met him, the game with him and listened to him!

The new year will offer plenty of music with recordings and concerts in Denmark and abroad, with the band Himmerland as well as accordion player Mette Kathrine Jensen and violinist Kristian Bugge. In addition, the American Café Orchestra goes to Finland at the end of June to teach and play at the Haapavesi Folk Festival, and the trio Lydom, Bugge & Høirup travels around Denmark with traditional folk music.

The Lord's year 2014 will take me around Denmark and to Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy and Australia, and I am already looking forward to meeting you all. Have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

PS Maybe we'll see each other before the New Year? On 29 December 2013 at 15:00 – 17:30 Lydom, Bugge and Høirup play traditional Danish folk music in Copenhagen Folk Club (Metronomen) at Godthåbsvej 33, 2000 Frederiksberg. We share the afternoon with the violin and guitar duo Fromseier Hoclings. Everyone is welcome! See more here
